In recognition of First 5 Fundamentals Family Fun Fair kick-off event, members of the Pierce County Council unanimously approved Proposed Resolution R2014-93, designating Aug. 9 as “Pierce County Early Learning Day.”

The First 5 Fundamentals program, which began in 2006, is a collaboration of over 40 community organizations working together to achieve the common goal of school readiness for all children. First 5 Fundamentals emphasizes the duty of communities to come together as champions for the youngest members of society in order to foster positive child development.

“We want to encourage all residents and businesses in Pierce County to support early childhood learning and development for all children,” said Councilmember Connie Ladenburg, who represents the 4th Council District and read the resolution aloud at the Aug. 5 regular council meeting. “I think we owe it to ourselves and our children to provide them with every opportunity to learn, grow and develop into the promising young adults we know they’re going to become.”

First 5 Fundamentals is hosting a Family Fun Fair event on Aug. 9 at the Bethel Learning Center, 21818 38th Avenue East in Spanaway, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. The focus of the event is to provide a forum to demonstrate what high-quality learning and child care looks like through hands-on play and activities.
