9th Street East between 190th Avenue East and 198th Avenue East near Lake Tapps Park reopened Aug. 5 after crews reconstructed the roadway. The road was expected to reopen in mid-August.
Crews will continue to work along the roadway until the project is completed in September. Periodic lane restrictions are expected.
Pierce County reconstructed approximately 1,500 feet of 9th Street East to enhance safety. The roadway was realigned and regraded to increase sight distance. Crews also widened the lanes to 12 feet, added six-foot paved shoulders, installed guardrail along the roadway between Hille and Bowman lakes, and added stormwater facilities.
The closure was needed so the project contractor, SCI Infrastructure LLC, could excavate and then rebuild the roadway at a lower elevation.
The construction cost is approximately $883,000. The project is funded by County Road Funds and Federal Highway Safety Improvement Program funds.
