Deputies seize meth, explosives, stolen gun from Bonney Lake area property

Neighbors in the area reportedly told deputies the 8-acre property had become a nuisance.

Pierce County sheriff’s deputies seized two improvised explosives, a pound of crystal methamphetamine, a stolen rifle and a stolen trailer last week while serving a search warrant at a Bonney Lake area property.

A bomb squad, SWAT team, and the Puget Sound Auto Theft Task Force assisted in the Aug. 26 search in the 8000 block of 214th Avenue East. It led to the arrest of a 58-year-old man on suspicion of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, a stolen firearm, an explosive, and other stolen property.

The man, who is a felon, should not have possessed a firearm to begin with, let alone a stolen one, based on the suspected crimes deputies booked him for. The sheriff’s office referred to him as a “high-priority offender” who was well-known to law enforcement.

Neighbors in the area told deputies the 8-acre property had been a nuisance, according to the department.

Deputies also seized $6,000 in cash during the search.
