As you may know, August is always one of the deadliest months on our roadways statewide, due in large part to summer parties and celebrations that involve, sometimes too much, alcohol. That is why between Aug. 17 and Sept. 3, extra law enforcement will be canvassing roadways statewide in the Drive Hammered, Get Nailed patrols.

We often get inquiries from motorists about what to do if you see someone on a roadway or freeway that you suspect is an impaired driver. We encourage motorists in that situation to dial 9-1-1, with location, vehicle type and license plate if possible. We know that dialing 9-1-1 has traditionally been endorsed for current life threatening situations, but how better to eliminate a potential tragedy?
