East Pierce Pancake Feed Fundraiser on August 18

The East Pierce Volunteer Firefighters Association will be holding a Pancake Feed Fundraiser prior to Milton Days "Rock the Park!" from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. Aug. 18 at East Pierce Fire and Rescue’s Milton Station 114 located at 1000 Laurel Street.

The East Pierce Volunteer Firefighters Association will be holding a Pancake Feed Fundraiser prior to Milton Days “Rock the Park!” from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. Aug. 18 at East Pierce Fire and Rescue’s Milton Station 114 located at 1000 Laurel Street.

Funds raised will benefit the VFA’s Scholarship for Excellence Program. Each year at least five area high school seniors are awarded scholarships to assist with their dreams of obtaining a college education.

The Pancake Feed will be the first time the VFA has put on an event of this nature.

“We hope to make this an annual tradition and bring the outlying community to Milton” said Volunteer Captain and VFA Vice-President Mark Nevill in a press release.

Tickets for the Pancake Feed are $5 for adults and $3 for kids 10 years old and younger. One ticket will get you one meal and one drink and will be available at the door for purchase. Fire engines, aid units, and rescue apparatus will be available for free tours as well.

The Milton Days celebration will kick off with a parade at 10 a.m. and celebrations will continue in Triangle Park. Many vendor booths will be on hand as well as family events and live entertainment into the evening hours. The VFA hopes everyone attending the Pancake Feed will stick around and explore the tiny community tucked next to bustling I-5.

The East Pierce VFA’s Scholarship for Excellence Program was started in 2008 with guaranteed scholarships for students at Bonney Lake, Sumner, and White River High Schools plus one scholarship for East Pierce employees and their families. The program has since expanded and now offers the Community Scholarship benefiting students living within the boundaries of East Pierce Fire and Rescue but attending schools outside that area, like those living in the Edgewood and Milton areas.

In addition, the VFA is now offering the Doty Community Service Award, named for retired Assistant Chief Jake Doty who served over 47 years in the fire service. Should this award be given to a high school senior, they will also receive a scholarship when funds are available.
