At 10:30 a.m., King County Fire District No. 28/Enumclaw Fire Department responded to a car versus semitruck motor vehicle accident at the intersection of state Route 164 and 244th Avenue Southeast.

The car involved was a midsized SUV and had significant damage to the driver’s side from the impact of the semi. Fire crews used mechanical power tools to remove the driver’s side doors of the SUV and extricated the trapped driver. The driver was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center with significant injuries.

A minor was the only other occupant of the SUV and he received minor injuries that were treated at a local area hospital. The driver of the semitruck was uninjured and was not transported. Seatbelt use, proper use of child restraints/car seat and airbags can all be attributed significantly reducing the amount of injuries to the occupants of the SUV.

Other agencies on scene include Mountain View Fire/District 44, King County Medic One, Enumclaw Police Department, and Washington State Patrol.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
