Two people, including an Enumclaw woman, died as the result of a highway traffic accident Wednesday night.

Cheryl Bach, 47, was transported to Harborview Medical Center, where she died. She was a passenger in a 2006 Subaru Impreza driven by a 65-year-old man from Snoqualmie, Wash., who died at the scene.

According to Washington State Patrol reports, the Subaru was heading west on state Route 18 in the vicinity of the Raging River at about 11:45 p.m. The driver – who had not been identified as of Thursday morning – attempted to make a U-turn to assist a disabled pickup truck parked on the eastbound shoulder. The Subaru moved to the westbound shoulder and began the U–turn, but traveled directly into the path of the oncoming semi truck, also westbound.

The driver of the large truck, Juan Nunez of Yakima, was not injured. His truck sustained $10,000 in damage.
