Man finds out shoplifting is not as easy as it looks on television | BONNEY LAKE POLICE BLOTTER

BURGLARY: Police on June 23 were dispatched to the area of Fred Meyer after store employees reported seeing an individual known to be involved in numerous thefts that had been trespassed permanently from Fred Meyer. The suspect also had five outstanding warrants. The officer waited at the suspect’s home for him to arrive and took him into custody without incident. After being interviewed by detectives, the suspect was transported to Pierce County Jail for booking on a burglary charge.

FAIL TO TRANSFER: Police on routine patrol late June 23 ran the plate of a truck traveling on state Route 410 and discovered the truck has been sold in February. The driver told police he was aware of the failure to report the sale and had been pulled over in the past for failing to transfer the title. He also admitted he did not have insurance for the vehicle. He was cited for failure to transfer title within 45 days and failure to provide proof of insurance.

PROWL: Officers on June 24 were dispatched to the 19000 block of 68th Street East for a report of a vehicle prowl. According to the victim, someone entered his vehicle through the night and removed the charging cord for his iPhone. Police are investigating.

SUSPENDED: Police on patrol in the early morning hours of June 25 witnessed a vehicle speeding on state Route 410. According to the report, the officer paced his vehicle with the suspect vehicle for approximately 16 blocks as the suspect vehicle’s speed ranged between five and 15 mph over the speed limit. Upon contact, the driver’s license was found to be expired and she was discovered to have a suspended license and two outstanding warrants. The driver was cited for driving with license suspended and transported to Milton for her warrants.

FIGHT: Police were dispatched to Swiss Sportsmens Club late on June 24 for report of a fight. According to the police report, a large party of at least 100 people was occurring on the premises. When police arrived one man was in the back of an ambulance being treated for a one-inch cut on his forehead. The victim appeared very intoxicated. In broken English he told police he loved “this country” and that he was hit in the head with a bottle. He said he was attacked by a man who lives in his neighborhood in Maple Valley on whom he has repeatedly called the police for attempting to sell him a “green card.” As police were talking to the victim, a 15-year-old approached and admitted to striking the victim with a bottle. The teenager told police the victim approached him and struck him in the face unprovoked, at which time tie the teen grabbed a bottle and hit the victim with it. The teen also said he lives in the victim’s neighborhood and that their families are in conflict. When shown the teen, the victim denied assaulting him and said it was not the teen who hit him with the bottle, but the teen’s step-father. When an officer who spoke spanish asked the step-father about the incident, he denied hitting the victim with a bottle and the teen again demanded that it was him. Witnesses gave conflicting reports as to what actually happened. The victim refused further medical treatment and was asked to leave the premises. Because of the conflicting reports, no one was charged.

SHOPLIFTING: Police in the early morning hours of June 27 were dispatched to the Chevron Market Express for a report of a shoplifter. According to an employee, two unknown male sentered the store. grabbed an 18-pack and a 12-pack of beer and then fled without paying. The employee reported that another customer said the two men ran across state Route 410 where they were picked up by a vehicle. Police are investigating.

NOT AS EASY AS IT LOOKS: Police on June 27 were dispatched to Walmart for a report of a shoplifter in custody. Store security witnessed the suspect go to the electronics section, select two blu-rays, break the package, remove the discs and place them in his pocket. The suspect then did some other shopping and went to the checkout, but did not pay for the two blu-ray discs, valued at approximately $50. The suspect admitted to taking the discs and when asked why he told police he had seen a TV show about shoplifting and thought it would be easy to get away with it. He was cited for shoplifting and and released.

PROWL: Police on June 29 were dispatched to the 17900 block of Panorama Boulevard for a report of a vehicle prowl. The victim reported that when she went out to her vehicle in the morning, she noticed it unlocked – though she had locked it the night before – and a backpack containing a laptop, camera and iPod was missing. Police are investigating.

VANDALISM: Officers on June 29 were dispatched to the 7700 block of 182nd Avenue East for a report of damage to a vehicle. During the night, an unknown suspect scratched every side of her vehicle and carved the letters “FU” into the trunk. Police are investigating.

PROWLED: Officers on June 29 took a report from a resident in the 7500 block of 191st Avenue East who said his car was prowled, though he was not entirely sure when. The victim reported that two GPS units, with a total value of about $700, were missing. A records check by police indicated they had been in the neighborhood June 24 and took a prowl report from a neighbor.
