The Enumclaw School District is hosting several open houses to educate the public about its aging facilities and infrastructure.
These sessions come on the heels of ESD’s Board of Directors voting to approve (or reject) a new capital project levy proposal during the Feb. 10 meeting.
There are five open houses, each at different locations:
– Feb. 10, 4:30 p.m., Byron Kibler Elementary
– Feb. 11, 5:30 p.m., Southwood Elementary
– Feb. 25, 6 p.m., Sunrise Elementary
– Feb. 26, 5:30 p.m., Westwood Elementary
– Feb. 27, 5:30 p.m., Black Diamond Elementary
The meeting will cover topics like what challenges the district is facing with its aging buildings; how the district is planning to fund upgrade its facilities and how the money will be spent; and go over the work of the community-led Facilities Oversight and Capital Utilizations Sustainability (FOCUS) committee.
Attendees will also be able to ask district officials and leaders questions and share their own ideas.
The levy, if approve by voters during the April special election, would result in a new property tax, estiamted to be about 37 cents per $1,000 in assessed property value.
For a resident with $500,000 in APV, the annual tax bill comes out to $185.
However, levy collection is maxed at $3 million through 2029, so it’s possible the tax rate will depreciate as home values increase and the district’s population grows.
