Five saved Sunday night in river rescue at Kummer bridge

No injuries were reported from the group, which became stranded in the area between Enumclaw and BD

Five stranded floaters were rescued from the Green River late Sunday evening, briefly requiring the Kummer Bridge between Enumclaw and Black Diamond to close.

Rescue crews rappelled 150 feet down from the bridge to rescue the group, who had become stranded around 7:50 p.m. that evening near a slope, according to King County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Manny Apostol. The group had thankfully gotten themselves out of the water prior to the rescue operation.

All five occupants were rescued with no injuries reported. The Fire Department did check with one of the people who wasn’t feeling well.

Crews from Enumclaw Fire, Puget Sound Fire, Valley Regional Fire Authority, South King Fire & Rescue, King County Medic One and the King County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene Sunday evening. The bridge was closed for about three hours from around 8:15 p.m. to a few minutes after 11:00 p.m.
