19 year-old arrested after Enumclaw School District lockdowns

The Black Diamond resident was arrested with throwing stars, a BB gun, and a compound bow with one arrow.

3:43 P.M. UPDATE: The Enumclaw Police Department has released information about the young man who caused four local schools to go into modified lockdown.

According to police, a 911 call was made at 11:51 a.m. reporting a yet-unnamed 19 year-old Black Diamond resident riding a motorcycle at Enumclaw High and carrying a bow and arrow.

As officers searched the area, more 911 calls came in to report a recklessly driven motorcycle around the city and surrounding area; the motorcycle even passed officers on three separate occasions, but officers were “unable to pursue the fleeing motorcycle” a press release reads, citing state law on vehicle pursuits.

The 2021 legislature passed HB 1054, which restricts officers from pursuing vehicles unless officers have probable cause to suspect a driver has committed a violent, sex, escape or DUI offense.

Witnesses saw the teen hiding near the SE 472nd and 268th Ave SE intersection, near Mount Peak. When officers arrived, they found him hiding in a shed.

When he was arrested, officers took possession of throwing stars, a bb-gun which looked like a semi-automatic pistol, and a compound bow with one broad-head tip arrow.

“He admitted to using drugs all day long, but he did not provide anything further regarding his behavior or motive,” the press release reads.

The teenager was booked on several charges, including DUI, disturbing a school, possessing dangerous weapons on school facilities, and reckless endangerment.

“The Enumclaw Police Department would like to thank the community for their assistance with this investigation, and is grateful for the partnership with the Enumclaw School District and the Washington State Patrol,” the release ends.

2:30 P.M. UPDATE: All lockdowns have been lifted.

1:45 P.M. UPDATE: It appears one person has been detained in the investigation related to the recent Enucmlaw School District lockdowns, according to information relayed over police scanner.

ORIGINAL POST: The Enumclaw School District recently put Enumclaw High, Enumclaw Middle School, Southwod Elementary and Sunrise Elementary into a modified lockdown due to an unreported threat.

A message on ESD’s main website says law enforcement is responding, though it’s unclear where — a Courier-Herald reporter confirmed no police presence at the high school as of 1 p.m.

“During a modified lockdown no one is allowed entry or exit from the building. Additional information will be shared when known,” the message reads. “We understand this information is concerning for our parents, however, the safety of the student is the priority at this time.”

This is an ongoing story and will be updated with more information when it becomes available.
