A construction worker found a box containing a grenade at the intersection of S168th St and 37 Ave S in SeaTac around 8am today.  King County Sheriff’s Office and FBI Bomb Technicians responded to the scene and ex-rayed the device.

After analyzing the ex-rays it could not be determine if the device contained explosives.  The device was moved to a remote location and detonated.   After detonation it was determined the device did not contain explosives.  The grenade appeared to be an old cast iron grenade and may have been a training device.

A King County Sheriff’s Office bomb technician said even though the device did not contain explosives it is still a crime to “place a hoax device.”   An investigation will be conducted to determine who placed the device at the scene.
