Homecoming | Sumner Mayor Update

This Friday, students, alumni and many others will celebrate Sumner High School's Homecoming not only with the game and dance but also with a parade down Main Street. Why do we have such a big, community-wide to-do? For starters, it's one of those classic American traditions that we like to keep alive here in Sumner especially as they disappear elsewhere. For another thing, it's just plain fun.

This Friday, students, alumni and many others will celebrate Sumner High School’s Homecoming not only with the game and dance but also with a parade down Main Street.  Why do we have such a big, community-wide to-do?  For starters, it’s one of those classic American traditions that we like to keep alive here in Sumner especially as they disappear elsewhere.  For another thing, it’s just plain fun.

Perhaps my favorite part is that we get to support our youth and potentially, our future leaders.  These are kids doing great work, whether they’re on the Football Team, the Volleyball Team, in the Band or even Drama Club or Shop.  They get to proudly march down Main Street, or ride in new cars borrowed from Sunset Chevrolet, and celebrate their school and community.  And we get to recognize the efforts they make today and the futures they have ahead of them.

Please come out at 4:30 this Friday and line Main Street from Heritage Park to Sunset Chev Stadium.  From our marching band led by Joe Carl to cars and trucks filled with students, it’s a tradition that fills all of Main Street with quite a party!
