Hornets go scoreless in final game, lose state title 10-0 to Meadowdale | Enumclaw Softball

After a nearly perfect season, the Enumclaw Hornets softball team fell 10-0 to Meadowdale Saturday in the 3A state title game.

After a nearly perfect season, the Enumclaw Hornets softball team fell 10-0 to Meadowdale Saturday in the 3A state title game.

This was Enumclaw’s second loss this season. The Hornets lost game two of the year to the, then, defending 4A state champions Tahoma.

Enumclaw bounced back and finished the season undefeated. Until Saturday.

The Hornets got off to a slow start in the championship game after Meadowdale went up 6-0 in the bottom of the first.

Despite striking out nine, senior pitcher Quinn Breidenbach gave up 10 hits and as many runs through six innings.

The game was called with two outs left in the bottom of the sixth after Meadowdale scored its 10th run on an RBI double.

Enumclaw struggled at the plate in the final, only recording three hits.

A double from both sophomores Emma Gunter and Hailey Roberts and a single from senior Rechelle Dunn were the only hits for Enumclaw.

The state tournament at the Regional Athletic Complex in Lacey began Friday with a 2-1 win over West Seattle.

Breidenbach homered twice, scoring both runs including a game winning walk off to advance the Hornets to the quarterfinals.

Game two Friday was aganist Mount Spokane where Enumclaw won 8-3.

The Hornets put up 11 hits that game.

And Breidenbach struck out 11 and only gave up four hits.

She had another home run, her third at the time for the tourney, and also hit a double.

Junior Madelyn Carlson and Roberts both went 2-4 with a double. And junior Brittany Camp was 3-4 during the win Friday.

The semi finals began Saturday morning where Enumclaw secured its return to the state title game after beating Everett 2-1.

Once again Breidenbach pitched that game, striking out eight and allowing one run on three hits.

She recorded another homer that game and was 1-3.

Dunn was also 1-3 with an RBI and Gunter went 2-3 during the semi finals win.

After finishing conference play with a perfect 14-0 record, the Hornets end the 2015-2016 season with a 21-2 record.
