Identity of man killed by train in Sumner released

The Pierce County Medical Examiner's office released the identity of a man who was struck and killed by a freight train in Sumner early Monday morning.

The Pierce County Medical Examiner’s office released the identity of a man who was struck and killed by a freight train in Sumner early Monday morning.

The News Tribune reports Roy James Patrick II, 35, was a Sumner resident, was hit by the train at approximately 12:40 a.m. Monday while he was sitting on the trestle at the Traffic Avenue and Thompson Street intersection.

Patrick died at the scene.

Sumner police do not know why the man sat down at the tracks and are investigating.
