Plateau youths have been honing their logging skills for this year’s Buckley Junior Log Show’s big weekend, and it won’t be long until over 100 young participants can display how much they have improved over the last 12 months, as the show gets underway on Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Buckley Log Show grounds on River Road.
Early events will include the wooden ax toss, choker setting, rope climb, horizontal block chop and tree climbing.
The aspiring little loggers will be able to enjoy ice cream, donated by Schwan’s throughout the day and there will a penny scramble for those children 3 through 12 years of age during varied intervals in the morning hours.
Watch out for Timberrr the clown though, as the word is out that he has quite a sweet tooth and isn’t afraid to join in on the fun.
The “penny scramble”, which is actually an event where quarters and candy are blended in with several undone and scattered bales of hay, will be sponsored by the Wilkeson Eagles this year.
As usual the show will wind down with the log rolling competition, which is always every child’s favorite event, especially on a hot June day. This classification is opened to several age groups from 9 and 10 year-olds to 15 and 17 year of age.
