Pierce County library users now have the power to decide what their library cards look like.
Through June 30, people may vote on artwork for a new Pierce County Library System card, based upon art designed by teenagers during the library’s first card design contest. Pierce County residents may choose the winner by voting on the library’s Web site, piercecountylibrary.org.
During the library card design contest earlier this spring, 110 Pierce County teenagers in grades 7 through 12 submitted original designs using colored pencil, pen, paint, camera or computer-generated art.
Professional artists reviewed entries and selected five finalists, one of whom is Chris Wassom, a student at Mountain View Middle School in Bonney Lake.
The winning design is revealed later this summer and is one of five choices people may select for their library card. The winning artist’s name will appear along with their artwork on the printed card.
The teen-designed library cards and cards with other designs will become available during library’s third annual card drive this fall.
