Regional Animal Services of King County (RASKC) and Northwest Spay & Neuter Center (NWSNC) have teamed up to offer more low-cost animal spay and neuter surgeries for south King County residents.
On Friday, Oct. 16, RASKC will host NWSNC’s Animal Shuttle program. Owners and their unsterilized animals will be met at the King County Pet Adoption Center in Kent. After owners complete some paperwork and a brief intake interview, their pet will be loaded into a safe, secure carrier for the short ride to NWSNC’s Tacoma spay/neuter center. The animals will have their surgical procedures performed there, and then held overnight for recovery and monitoring. The newly-fixed pets will be taken back to Kent the next day and released to their owners at the Pet Adoption Center. Space is limited, so pet owners need to schedule an appointment by contacting NWSNC at 253-627-SPAY (7729).
Fees for the surgery are:
- Male cats $35
- Female cats $55
- Male dogs $75 to $115
- Female dogs $85 to $130
Financial assistance may be available to residents who qualify. Microchips, parasite control, and vaccinations will also be available at the time of surgery for an additional fee.
“We hope this pilot program can build on the great work we’ve done in partnership with Pasado’s Safe Haven and South County Cats to significantly increase spaying and neutering and reduce the number of homeless animals in our region,” said RASKC Manager Gene Mueller.
“Pets that have been spayed or neutered live healthier lives, are less likely to bite, and less likely to exhibit other problem behaviors,” said Melanie Manista Rushforth, executive director of NWSNC. “In short, there’s no good reason not to spay or neuter your pet.”
