HIT AND RUN: At 11:29 p.m. Dec. 14, an officer on patrol observed a vehicle with only one functioning headlight approaching him at a high rate of speed — 13 miles per hour above the speed limit, according to radar. The officer turned  in pursuit and located the vehicle stopped on the shoulder of the road. The driver was standing in front of her car, inspecting it for damage. The officer noted during his interaction with the driver that she appeared intoxicated. He wrote in his report that she was talking repetitively, acting confused, stumbling and swaying. The officer noted extensive damage to the vehicle, as if it had just been involved in a collision. The officer queried dispatch for reports of hit and run in the area. There were none and the driver was adamant she had not been involved in an accident. As the officer spoke with her, dispatch reported a hit and run that had just come in. The suspect vehicle description matched the driver’s car. Additionally, a mirror recovered by another officer matched one missing from the car. The driver was arrested or hit and run, and driving under the influence, and booked into Puyallup Jail.

METH: On Dec. 28, officer were dispatched to a parking lot in regard to possible drug activity. The reporting party advised police of two people in a vehicle who were constantly switching their seating. The engine was running and the lights were off. The plate number was provided to dispatch; dispatch advised the owner of the vehicle was a person with two warrants for his arrest, and who was familiar to police. Officers located the vehicle and immediately recognized the passenger as another person with past police encounters. Both occupants had their eyes closed, and appeared to wake up when officers knocked on the window; the lawmen noted in their report that they believed the occupants were only pretending to be asleep. The two were arrested on the strength of their warrants. The vehicle passenger was found to be in possession of a pipe designed for smoking methamphetamine; it appeared to have been used recently. The vehicle owner was booked into jail on his warrants, and he declined to allow officers to search his car. The vehicle was impounded and a search warrant was obtained, yielding methamphetamine. The owner had since been released from jail, but he was located and re-booked for felony possession.
