Orting section of Foothills Trail closed July 12 – 29 | Pierce County

Pierce County Planning and Public Works will be conducting levee repairs in the area

Editor’s note: The following is a press release from Pierce County.

About a half mile of the Foothills Trail southeast of Orting will be closed July 12-29 while crews repair a levee along the Carbon River.

The closure is about one quarter mile southeast of the southeast end of Charter Park, located at 425 Washington Ave. SE in Orting, and about three-fourths of a mile southwest of the 182nd Street East and Highway 162 intersection.

The trail closure will be in place 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

ABOUT THE WORK

Crews will repair two damaged sections of the levee – a 360-foot stretch and a 260-foot stretch. The sections are near Voights Creek.

The levee has eroded over time due to high water events. Crews will rebuild the levee using rock.

The asphalt trail will be removed for the work. It will be rebuilt once the work is complete.

This work is part of Pierce County’s annual levee repair program.

Additional work along the Foothills Trail is planned this summer. Learn more at www.PierceCountyWa.gov/Foothills.
