Members of the Buckley Kiwanis Club picked six young people to honor as their January Students of the Month.
Members of the White River High School Motorsports Club are putting together their first car show and fundraiser and, even though the event isn’t until May 18, students are already working hard to pack the house.
Community Connections is expanding special needs transportation in rural Pierce County. The “Beyond the Borders Connector,” a four-month pilot project, provides eligible riders with a link to services in rural communities.
Jeanette Kay Sturtz, 57, faced similar charges in 2011 for taking an unauthorized $10,600 from her homeowners association while acting as treasurer. The charges were dismissed when it was determined she had paid back the sum, a restitution she completed in January 2011.

ANIMAL TROUBLE: Police received a complaint the morning of March 5 regarding dogs that had been barking for hours at a Dieringer Avenue residence. No one was at the home, so an officer left a warning note and a copy of the city ordinance concerning nuisance barking.
EXTRA PATROL: Police were asked March 6 to provide extra patrol at the baseball fields off McDougall Avenue. Electrical boxes for the field lights had been opened and wires were pulled out. The wires were not copper and were not taken.
The Federal Aviation Administration’s contract control tower at the Tacoma Narrows Airport in Gig Harbor may close as the FAA implements the budget sequestration. This proposed tower closure is one of many that could occur at airports around the country.

Wednesday, Pierce County Prosecutor Mark Lindquist charged Dejon Dewayne Michael Simpson, 24, with intimidating a public servant for allegedly harassing and threatening two Community Corrections Officers.
