The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the death of a female inmate early this morning in the Pierce County Jail.
At approximately 1 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 2, corrections deputies observed an unconscious inmate on a jail bunk bed; the inmate was not breathing and did not have a pulse.
Corrections deputies attempted lifesaving medical aid before the inmate was transported to Tacoma General Hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased at 2:15 a.m.
The deceased inmate is a 27-year-old white female from the Puyallup area. She had been booked into the jail early the previous morning and was being held on a felony no-bail probation violation warrant.
Preliminary information from the investigation indicates there was no struggle, incident, or injury during her arrest; there are no signs of foul play or suicide. Investigators will await toxicology screening to determine cause of death.
