On January 6, 2016 at approximately 0725 hours a small red pickup truck was traveling SB on Maple Valley Highway(SR169) when the driver lost control on the icy roadway.

The pickup truck crossed over the center turn lane and struck a black Jetta traveling NB in lane two of two.

Washington State Patrol troopers and detectives responded and determined there was no impairment involved and the icy conditions were the main contributing factor. The driver of the Jetta was transported to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition.

The Washington State Patrol wants to take this opportunity to remind drivers of the potential treacherous driving conditions this time of year.

It is imperative that drivers are aware of the road conditions and adjust their driving accordingly. Slower speed, greater following distance and allow for more time to reach your destination.
