Spartan-Hornet boys headed for cage war at The Hive

Going into this Tuesday's SPSL 2A boys roundball showdown Sumner and White River share identical 5-1 league marks as they are deadlocked for second place behind defending 2A state champion Clover Park, which currently sits atop of the SPSL 2A heap at 6-0, after edging out both Sumner and White River in the first half of the young 2011-12 campaign.

When this tandem of equally talented squads tangle on White River’s parquet Jan. 10 at 5:15 p.m., in what should be an absolute thriller, something has got to give though as one of these two crews will drop to a third place status.

Most recently, Sumner got right back up on its horse after dropping its initial league contest of the year to Clover Park on the road three days prior, when it hosted an average Steilacoom unit Friday at the Spartan Fortress, clamping down on the Sentinels defensively to whallop the visitors 55-36, allowing a paltry 16 points out of Steilacoom in the first 16 minutes of play only four of which were produced in quarter number one.

Meanwhile White River traveled to Fife High’s facility Friday night and jumped all over the hosting Trojans 66-38, as Buckley’s sharpshooting senior point guard, Billy Kiel seemed to have gotten his shooting swerve on again and got back to being a deadeye from long range as he lit up the scoreboard with 26 points
