MRBA 9U team captures second

Mount Rainier Baseball Association had several teams competing in tournaments June 11 and 12.

In its first tournament, the 9U team went 4-1, taking home a second-place trophy from the Wenatchee Classic.

Also at the Wenatchee Classic, the 11U squad finished 5-1 for third place.

The 12U team lost the championship game to the Seattle Stars 6-1 to finish second in Kent.

Bluefins find gold at swim meet

Debbie Brassard, Tessa Lukasiak and Christine Meyers brought home gold medals from the Special Olympics state meet June 14 at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.

The threesome were part of a six-person team representing Enumclaw at the competition. The team is led by coach Tracy Schatz.

Brassard earned her gold medals in the 50-meter backstroke and freestyle events. She also earned a third-place finish in the 100 backstroke.

Lukasiak’s first-place finish came in the 50 backstroke. She also finished second in the 50 freestyle and third in the 100 backstroke. She was also part of the third-place 4×25-meter freestyle relay with teammates Liz Muma, Elise Skovmand and Brady Wood.

Meyers won the 50 freestyle for her gold medal. She was also second in the 100 freestyle and 50 backstroke.

In addition to her relay finish, Muma raced to second place the 100 backstroke and picked up a pair of fifth-place ribbons in the 50 freestyle and 50 backstroke.

Skovmand added a third-place finish in the 50 freestyle to her third-place relay medal. She also finished fourth in the 50 backstroke and sixth in the 100 backstroke.

Wood posted a seventh-place finish in the 50 freestyle along with this relay ribbon.

Wolverines still have openings

The Wolverine football and cheer program has a few openings left.

Wolverines are a weight- and age-based football league so kids can compete against similar-sized players. Full pads and uniforms are provided.

There are a variety of classifications, based upon a player’s age and weight.

Cheerleading is open to athletes ages 7 to 15 and uniforms are provided.
