Sumner is applying for grants to help with two of its trail projects.

The grants are through the State Recreation and Conservation Office, given to create outdoor recreation opportunities. The office works to assist with outdoor parks, boating facilities and trails.

If Sumner receives the funding, the money begins arriving in 2011.

Sumner submitted requests for two trail projects, the first of which is the White River Trail. The section under consideration is adjacent to the White River and runs along the Sumner Meadows Golf Course across the White River, and connects to the existing trail.

The projected cost is $2.2 million, of which Sumner’s portion is nearly $165,000. Mitigations feed to be collected by the city are estimated to cover $1,055,300 of the cost.

The second trail project is the Collin Keck Trail, which extends from the south side of Stewart Road near Golf Links Drive and continues east and goes under Lake Tapps Parkway. The section of trail connects to an existing trail in Auburn on the north side of Lake Tapps Parkway. The total projected cost is $649,000 and the city’s share is $344,500.
