Teacher resignation halts investigation by police and district

Separate investigations by the Enumclaw School District and Enumclaw Police Department came to a halt with the resignation of a high school teacher.

The teacher had been placed on paid leave in late May following complaints of animal cruelty in her Enumclaw High classroom. It had been alleged she was neutering cats as part of a veterinary science class.

Kathleen Lockyer, head of human resources for the district, confirmed the teacher has resigned and would not be in the classroom the remainder of the school year.

Lt. Eric Sortland, spokesman for the Enumclaw Police Department, said an investigation had been completed. Unless additional information in brought forward, he said, police are done with the matter.
