There are a lot of people expressing their support of Darrel Dickson for City Council in this newspaper and in other media. There are others expressing concerns. You too may be wondering, “Who is the real Darrel Dickson?”

I probably know him better than anyone, other than his blood relatives. I probably hold him to higher standards than anyone, even his blood relatives. I’m his father-in-law. However, I can assure you, without equivocation, that Darrel Dickson is the real deal. He’s a man of the highest character and integrity. He’s also a man of uncanny love for Enumclaw. I’ve asked him more than once, “Why do you put up with all this guff you get as a City Councilman? There are other ways to serve the community where you would be more appreciated.” He simply replies, “I love Enumclaw. I want to help keep it the great city that it is.”

I guess it’s a love that only someone born and raised in Enumclaw can understand.
