Washington Healthplanfinder today announced that more than 107,000 residents have signed up or renewed their Qualified Health Plan through wahealthplanfinder.org for coverage that started on Jan. 1. Approximately 26 percent of current Qualified Health Plan enrollees have signed up through Washington Healthplanfinder for the first time.

In addition, 471,602 new adults have accessed coverage through Washington Apple Health (Medicaid). The total number of residents who are currently enrolled under Medicaid expansion and in Qualified Health Plans totals nearly 580,000.

“We are pleased that more than a quarter of our current enrollees are new to Washington Healthplanfinder,” said Richard Onizuka, CEO for the Washington Health Benefit Exchange. “We will also continue to focus on reaching out to our renewing customers to help minimize any gaps in their coverage this year.”

Currently, 60 percent of customers who were enrolled in 2014 coverage have taken action to renew their coverage for 2015. Any remaining customers must return to their online account or contact the toll-free Customer Support Center to reconfirm their eligibility for financial help, select a health plan and submit their payment.

To help residents navigate their new health insurance policies, Washington Healthplanfinder has added new resources at www.knowyourplan.org. The web page, which is dedicated to helping Washingtonians better understand their health insurance options, includes a new “Road Map to Health” that provides six important steps for using your coverage after you’ve enrolled.

“Many customers who are new to health insurance may have questions about what to do next,” said Michael Marchand, Director of Communications for the Washington Health Benefit Exchange. “This new online resource will help guide them through the steps they should take when using their new plan.”

Washington Healthplanfinder also recently announced a special 60-day enrollment opportunity for residents who were unable to meet the Dec. 23 deadline for coverage that started on Jan. 1. Approximately 1,500 residents have applied for the special enrollment opportunity to-date.

These applications will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis to ensure that eligible individuals are able to receive retroactive coverage. Customers may visit our online form to see if they may be eligible to receive coverage that begins on Jan. 1.

Reminders: Residents must select and pay for a Qualified Health Plan by Jan. 23, 2015 at 4:59 p.m. for coverage that begins on Feb. 1, 2015. Residents may also enroll by the end of open enrollment, Feb. 15, for coverage that begins on March 1.

Enrollment in Washington Healthplanfinder Business and Washington Apple Health (Medicaid) is year-round. Apple Health customers will receive a notice 60 days before the month they enrolled in or renewed their coverage last year.
