Today, Oct. 10, Sumner School District cuts the ribbon on the refurbished and modernized Maple Lawn Elementary building.

Maple Lawn was closed for the 2011-2012 school year during construction, and its students were relocated to Donald Eismann Elementary within the Tehalah planned community south of Bonney Lake.

The ribbon-cutting will take place at 4:45 p.m., after which spectators are invited to tour the new building.

The Maple Lawn Husky Choir will perform a medley of songs, and an official dedication ceremony will take place in the Commons at 5:30 p.m.

The school gymnasium will also be dedicated as Jack Burns Gymnasium.

“I am incredibly proud of our new facility and the wonderful learning environment at Maple Lawn,” Principal Mike McCartin said in a press release. “It has been a long journey to get to this point and we are looking forward to celebrating with the community.”

Maple Lawn was the last school scheduled for renovation under the 2007 “Promises Made, Promises Kept” capital projects bond.
