George Porter Austin

Enumclaw resident George Porter Austin, 96, died Aug. 10, 2014.

He was born June 30, 1918, in Lingle, Wyo., to Ira and Myrtle Austin. He graduated from high school in 1936, joined the Colorado National Guard and served during World War II. He married Carolyn Young on July 10, 1953, in Hastings, Neb. In 1960, they moved to Enumclaw where he worked for the Army Corp of Engineers as a parks superintendent until his retirement in 1980. He was a fixture at the Enumclaw Food Bank where he served the community for more than a decade. He enjoyed wood working, was a rock hound and was a member of the Enumclaw Community Church.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Carolyn Austin; sons Phillip Lee of Buckley and Ira George (Donna) Austin of Buckley; daughters Lazett (Robert) Harrison of Enumclaw and

Yvette (Marc) Dickerson of St. Charles, Md; 12 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by son Patrick L. Austin.

A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, at Enumclaw Community Church, 28121 S.E. 448th St. Enumclaw, 98022.
