Jack Hadfield, a man known for his kind spirit, sharp intellect, happy grin and with a heart full of quiet devotion, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2025, at the age of 85. Born onMarch 16, 1939, to Al and Virginia Hadfield in Chicago, Illinois. He married Janice McGinn in the July of 1959, Jack was a son, a brother, a husband, a father, a grandfather and great grandfather. His life was full of adventure and fun.
Jack’s education began in the public schools of Crystal Lake, Illinois, before he attended Ripon College in Wisconsin for one year. He then transferred to Purdue University inWest Lafayette, Indiana, where he earned both a Bachelor’s andMaster’s degree inMechanical Engineering. His college years were also marked by the birth of his two children, Terry and Tim, who were both born while Jack was studying in Lafayette.
After graduating in 1962, Jack moved his family to Seattle,Washington, to begin his career with Boeing. He worked at Boeing from 1962 until 1994, taking an early retirement that he filled with playing softball and windsurfing. Jack later contracted back to Boeing for several years following his retirement. Jack had an adventurous spirit, and his love of outdoor pursuits was evident. He served as a member of the Crystal Mountain National Ski Patrol and worked as a ski instructor for the Boeing Skibacs. His passion for music, especially playing guitar, was a source of joy throughout his life. He was an active member of the WashingtonOld Time Fiddlers organization and a part of a small group of musicians in Enumclaw, where he lived for the last part of his life.
In retirement, Jack traveled around the country and made an annual trip to Corpus Christi to windsurf. He also found joy in being his young granddaughter Andrea’s playmate during her early school years. Jack had a deep love for his family and a devotion to the ones he loved.
Jack was preceded in death by his beloved wife Janice, to whom he was married for 63 years, until her passing in September 2021 and sister Jean Sutton. He is survived by his daughter Terry Huizenga, son Tim Hadfield, granddaughter Andrea Reynoldson and husband Chris, great-granddaughters Maylen and Ayla, brother Jerry Hadfield and wife Zooey, niece Kristen Bennett and husband Alan, nephews Greg Hadfield and wife Kerry, Daniel Shiro and wifeMichelle, Ted Shiro and wife Tesha and brother-in-law Ed Sutton.
