Joyce A. Johnson, 88, of Buckley, died Feb. 25, 2017, in Puyallup.

Joyce A. Johnson, 88, of Buckley, died Feb. 25, 2017, in Puyallup.

She was born Feb. 15, 1929, in Tishamingo, Okla., to Arta and Nola Duncan. She married Howard M. “Jerry” Johnson in Seattle. They lived in Renton for a couple of years before moving to Georgetown, then to Midway/Des Moines. In 1960, they moved to Tacoma where they bought a grocery store. Eventually they settled in Kent. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, fishing and camping. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and a devout Christian.

She is survived by sons Michael Johnson (Elizabeth) of Lake Tapps and Leon Johnson (Suzie) of Enumclaw; sister Linda Azzola (Larry) of Renton; four grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by husband Howard M. Johnson in 1996 and sisters Jean Porter and Bessie Duncan.

A celebration of her life is planned for 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 11, at Swiss Park.
