Upon reading the recent letter (Courier-Herald, Nov. 4) critiquing Rich Elfers’ column on freedom and chaos, I felt as if I had followed Alice down Lewis Carroll’s wondrous rabbit hole. Those familiar with Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland may remember her conversation with Humpty Dumpty during which he proceeded to instruct her in his version of semantics:

Two questions came to my mind after seeing the results of the Nov. 3 elections (click here for Pierce County results and here for King County results): do voters make good decisions in a democracy, or is it better that the uninformed not vote? And does the skill and knowledge that it takes to win an election actually serve that politician once in office? At this time in an off-year election year and with the presidential election looming in 2016, these questions are extremely relevant.
