Seeing Sumner through the eyes of city’s visitors

It’s almost spring break time and that means report cards will be out soon. So I thought this week I’d share with you our own version of a downtown report card.

It’s almost spring break time and that means report cards will be out soon. So I thought this week I’d share with you our own version of a downtown report card.

Now to be honest, what I’m really looking for is an opportunity share with you the great feedback we got from our latest survey about the Sweetheart Wine Walk. It’s important to remember that whatever you see and hear going on downtown is a true community partnership.

And by community, I mean both in the historic downtown core and within the city limits of Sumner. It involves businesses, service organizations and residents and our city government itself.

Nothing operates inside a vacuum very well and downtowns are no different. The beauty of a revitalized downtown is that the synergy amongst the partners means a healthy city from border to border.

So without further adieu, here’s why our visitors say they come downtown:

“The walkability of the town, as well as the great downtown events, really make it a wonderful place to live.”

“I enjoy the shops in downtown Sumner. Sorci’s and the Windmill Bistro are delicious and we love going to Windmill Gardens.” “Shopping while tasting! The fun ‘actors’ you have placed around town to ‘entertain’ us and the music. It’s just a fun time all around.”

“We look forward to seeing people we’ve met at and only see at the wine walks. – “oh, hi again! fancy meeting you here!”

“Going into the stores I normally wouldn’t have been interested in going in. I found some good things to come back for! Always love the Picket Fence.”

“It was a ball. We invited our friends from Ocean Shores to come with us and they thoroughly enjoyed the event as much as we did. All four of us will be returning to Sumner again soon.”

“Choosing a dinner eatery. We try new places every walk.”

“It was the social event of the year for our neighborhood.”

“I actually have been there twice since! It is a wonderful place to shop and spend a day! I am going today as a matter of fact!”

“Shop at McLendon’s and Sumner Woodworker Store.”

“I live locally so I hit Main Street periodically to mail letters and go to Tiny’s Tire, the quick mart, Fred Meyer, or McLendon’s.”

“I was in Sumner less than once a month on average before, maybe more than that now. I have been to The Buttered Biscuit three times since the wine walk for example.”

“We are so happy the city cares about retaining its character”

“We enjoy the concerts in the park during the summer. We like to bring friends with us who have not had the Sumner experience before.”

“Banking, shopping, eating. I would never drive if there was a grocery store downtown!”

“Enjoy the convenience of walking downtown and types of shops. I want to support my local community!”

Thanks to all those who took the time to participate in our survey. Your comments make Sumner sound like the hip and happening place to be. But you know what the best part about this survey is? I now have more than 200 new quotes about why people like to spend their time in Sumner.
