BLHS BOYS SWIM AND DIVE: Panthers ring up pool win

The Bonney Lake High boys swim and dive team rang up a lopsided 135-29 victory Thursday over Clover Park. Competing in the Sumner High pool, the Panther squad placed first in 11 of the 12 events.

The Bonney Lake High boys swim and dive team rang up a lopsided 135-29 victory Thursday over Clover Park. Competing in the Sumner High pool, the Panther squad placed first in 11 of the 12 events.

Team members also posted their first district-qualifying times. Cody Steiert qualified for districts in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 55.09 seconds; and the event-winning 400 freestyle relay crew of Cody Rae, Nate Scott, Zach Goodsell and Steiert also qualified, finishing in 3:53.46. Coach Jay Paulson noted Nate Scott and Zach Goodsell need only a small drop in their times to also qualify for district in the 100 freestyle.

Paulson also singled out Jonah Howard, Dominic Leiggi, Josh Weaver and Zach Pettit for their top efforts against the Warriors.

Other Panthers winning their events Thursday were:

• the 200 medley relay team of Goodsell, Pettit, Zach Bordelon and Steiert, with a time of 2:02.40.

• Scott, 200 freestyle, 2:10.09.

• Steiert, 200 individual medley, 2:22:12, and 500 freestyle, 5:58.17.

• Pettit, 50 freestyle, 26.12, and 100 breaststroke, 1:22.19.

• Goodsell, 100 freestyle, 58.59.

• team of Howard, Josh Nipert, Pettit and Rae, 200 freestyle relay, 1:50.56.

• Bordelon, 100 backstroke, 1:15.85.

• Gary Flygare, diving, 115.9 points.

Earning second-place points for the Panthers were Scott in the 500 freestyle; Steven Brown in the 100 backstroke; Weaver, 100 breaststroke; Andrew Allen, 200 freestyle; Cameron Gehrke, 200 IM; Rae, 50 and 100 freestyle; and Bordelon, 100 butterfly. Panther teams were also second in the 200 freestyle relay, 400 freestyle relay and 200 medley relay.
