BLHS CROSS COUNTRY: Baumchen leads runners with third

In their final meet before Saturday’s subdistrict action, the Bonney Lake Panthers defeated Sumner and Franklin Pierce in both boys and girls cross country.

In their final meet before Saturday’s subdistrict action, the Bonney Lake Panthers defeated Sumner and Franklin Pierce in both boys and girls cross country.

The Bonney Lake boys edged Sumner 25-32 and the girls won 26-29. There were no results available from Franklin Pierce coaches.

Brandon Baumchen led the boys with a third-place finish in 18 minutes, 27 seconds on the 3.1-mile course. Reed Hawkins took fourth in 18:37 and William Edwards was fifth in 18:41.

In the girls race, there were no surprises as Veronica Stinnett took first with a time of 19:58.

Behind Stinnett was running mate Marie Wilson in second place at 21:13 and Sierra Espinal was fifth at 22:25.

“We’re ready to go,” coach Andrew Foster said, referring to the coming postseason races. “We just need to avoid any sickness.”

The subdistrict meet will be at Fort Steilacoom in Lakewood. Race time is 10 a.m. for varsity girls and 10:30 a.m. for varsity boys. Awards will be presented at 12:30 p.m.
