The Bonney Lake High volleyball crew improved its league mark at an unblemished 7-0 last week when it swept Lakes and Peninsula in straight sets.

Bonney Lake began its week in the Lakes High gymnasium, winning with relative ease 25-16, 25-11 and 25-18. The Panthers then hosted Peninsula and shu tout an improved Seahawk flock 25-14, 28-26 and 25-16.

Bonney Lake maintained its perfect record in league action and elevated its overall accounting to 11-1, but costly injuries may have made the price quite high for last week’s triumphs, as two reliable players sustained injuries that could render them unable to dig, spike, serve or assist for awhile.

“Last week was a fruitful week for us as far as collecting victories and remaining undefeated, but we may be paying dearly for those wins later on down the line,” Panther coach Shirley Baker said. Junior setter Ashtyn Bagby may have torn her meniscus and defensive specialist Alexa Hill might have a small rip in her anterior cruciate ligament, Baker added.

“Time will tell how serious these injuries are, but I am certainly glad now that we’ve adopted the philosophy of rotating people in and out of the matches throughout this season,” Baker said.

Against the Lancers, Bagby had 22 assists and 11 digs. She also managed 30 assists against Peninsula before her injury sent her to the bench.

Also against Peninsula, Danielle Norton amassed 15 kills as well as 14 digs. Nicole Rack had a handful of kills, while also registering 17 digs.

Baker called the next three outings vitally important toward maintaining their momentum with the playoffs drawing near.

Bonney Lake already hosted probably its fiercest SPSL 3A competition Tuesday when Auburn Mountainview journeyed to the Plateau and will travel to Decatur High Thursday.
