A volleyball toss-up between Bonney Lake and Sumner landed in the Panthers favor after five fraught games Wednesday night.

It was the first match of the Spartans’ season, but the Panthers had already fit two—losses, both—under their belt.

Sumner won the first game 25-23, but Bonney Lake won the next two, 25-17 and 25-20. Sumner came back in the fourth game with a 25-20 win, but Bonney Lake came back for a 17-15 coup in the fifth and final game.

Panther top performer Lisa Demick had 23 kills, four blocks and 12 digs. Ashlyn Bagby had four blocks, 44 assists and 11 digs. Taylor Moss brought in 20 kills and 10 digs.

Sumner’s Kaetlyn Brown racked up 17 kills. Brittany Smith made 41 assists. Sister Karissa Smith shot nine kills, and 16 digs. Cassidy Sargent achieved seven kills.
