Falk nails solo homer

After returning from spring break and starting off the week with a loss to Frankin Pierce, the Spartans bounced back for a pair of 11-1 win.

The Spartans finished the week with a drubbing of district rival Bonney Lake Friday on the road. The Spartans scored four runs in the first and third innings in the win. They added one run in the fourth and two in the fifth. The game was called because of the 10-run rule.

Brad Falk hit two home runs – a two-run shot in the first inning and a solo homer in the fourth.

Evan Carol, Alex Sloan and Kurt Swalander each added a hit in the nine-hit attack.

Coach John Welker, after the Franklin Pierce loss, took his team back to Sumner and practiced after the game.

“We came back to practice and got after it,” Welker said. “We worked on our defense, learned how to stay down and play catch, and do it the right way. It’s no fun getting spanked like that.”

At home, the Spartans pounded White River April 7.

Sumner opened the game with a four-run first inning, then scored six in the second. They added another in the fifth and the game was called because of the 10-run rule.

Falk led the Spartans with a grand-slam homer, while Tanner Brinkman and Sloan had two hits each.

Falk also picked up the win on the mound. He gave up four hits and struck out two.

Michael Anastasi and Payden Lamb each had a hit for White River.

Franlkin Pierce belted Sumner pitching for 14 hits in five innings during an 18-3 3A SPSL win at home April 7.

The Cardinals scored four runs in their first-at bat. They exploded for 11 runs in the second for a commanding, 11-1 lead.

Franklin Pierce added three more runs in the fourth before the game was called.

Sumner scored a run each in the second, fourth and fifth innings. The Spartans finished with only four hits, but committed four errors.

Falk had a solo homer for one of the Spartans’ runs.

Sumner hosts Peninsula Friday and plays at Clover Park Tuesday.
