Sumner’s fastpitch team has great expectations for its 2012 spring season.

“We have expectations of finishing in the top half of our leage with the hopes of this year making it to the state tournament in Selah,” coach Kristin Crawley said. “After last year’s hard loss in the game that would have taken us to state, the girls have the itch to make this year count.”

Who are these ambitious ladies? The returning varsity players include two seniors, four juniors and one sophomore.

The seniors are first baser Sara Heuett and outfielder Megan Anderson.

Juniors are outfielder Darby Kenyon, pitcher Allie Sims, third baser Kaylee Kline and outfielder Cassidy Sargent.

The returning sophomore is catcher Amanda Haines.

New varsity players this season are sophomore Brittany Biller on second base and shortstop, and junior Kadie Fernando on outfield. Biller has a background in fastpitch, and Fernando previously served the team as an infielder.
