The good times keep on rolling for the Plateau’s wildly successful football teams.
Last week, both Enumclaw and White River pushed their season records to a perfect 7-0, keeping them clearly atop the North Puget Sound League 3A standings. All of Enumclaw’s victories have been against league foes; White River has picked up one nonleague win.
In the course of adding another lopsided victory, the Plateau pair continued to shine on both sides of the ball. Enumclaw has now scored 352 points (averaging a bit more than 50 per outing), while the defense has given up a measly 41 points (six per contest) and posted three shutouts.
White River also has logged a trio of shutouts, has scored 322 points (46 per night) and has allowed just 26 points (fewer than four per game).
The Plateau teams will be looking for victory No. 8 this week, the final step before a hugely-anticipated Battle of the Bridge. White River will host a Decatur team that sits at 4-2 with all games against NPSL 3A foes. EHS waits until 1 p.m. Saturday to host the visiting squad from Eastmont High. The East Wenatchee team participates in the Class 4A Big 9 Athletic Conference and boasts a 4-1 league record (4-2 overall).
Here’s how each Plateau squad improved to 7-0 last week.
ENUMCLAW
The Hornets wasted little time with their Thursday night, 42-0 demolition of Auburn Mountainview. With Homecoming electricity in the air and a boisterous student section in full white-out mode, the EHS advantage was 14-0 by the end of the first quarter.
The early success started with an interception by linebacker Kage Kuro which set up a touchdown pass from Gavin Trachte to Kolt Kuzaro. After the Lions fumbled away an Enumclaw punt, Trachte scored on a short carry.
Midway through the second period the Hornets added to their lead when Maddox Hendrickson caught a pass, nearly reached the end zone and then, seconds later, carried the ball for the score.
The third quarter saw Paxton Patterson race, nearly untouched, for a touchdown. The final frame had Patterson running for his second TD of the night and Cole Chiechi adding another rushing touchdown.
WHITE RIVER
Quarterback Chaz Strickland again dominated Friday’s stat sheet, tossing six touchdown passes while completing 22 of 28 throws and amassing 317 yards through the air.
With numbers like those it’s no wonder the Hornets ran the ball just eight times during an easy 49-0 victory over Kent-Meridian.
The game, played at French Field in Kent, saw White River race to a 21-0 lead after just one quarter of play and enjoy a 35-0 halftime advantage.
During the opening period Strickland tossed TD passes to Braydon Thomas, Parker Fry and Derek Gonzalez. Second-quarter scoring strikes went to Ray Palmer and Fry. Strickland and Palmer teamed up again in the third period and the Hornets capped the night’s scoring when Logan Brame added a 6-yard TD run.
