PIGSKIN PICKS: Week 10

By Dannie Oliveaux and John Leggett | The Courier-Herald

Once again, Bret Farve and the Vikings handed the Packers another loss, thus helped bring JL to within one game of DO in the overall standings. JL was a perfect 7-0 to improve his record to 46-17, while DO was 6-1 and is 47-16. Well it’s the first week of playoff action in high school football with a couple of interesting matchups. Here are our pics for this week.

Bonney Lake vs. O’Dea

DO: The Panthers travel to Seattle Friday night for an encounter against Class 3A powerhouse O’Dea. The Fighting Irish only loss was in Week 2 against Class 4A No. 1 Bothell, 25-0. O’Dea slipped past Capital, 19-15, in Week 1. I love the Panthers spread-offense attack, but O’Dea is playoff tested. O’DEA.

JL: The Fightin Irish of O’Dea will fire a tranquilizer dart at the Panthers of Bonney Lake to sadly terminate what has been a good season for the BLHS grid program. O’DEA

Enumclaw at Capital

DO: The Cougars opened up the season with two losses against O’Dea and Class 4A Olympia. Since then, they have been rolling up the points – 234 in a four-game span with 73 against North Kitsap. Capital loves to run the football and they’ll run the Hornets out of the Capital City. CAPITAL

JL: A stubborn, stingy, senior ladened defense has been EHS’ forte this season. Unless Capital’s 0-line is enormous or overpowering the Hornets should be able to hang with Capital, who will be inspired playing in front of its home crowd. And, no I am not being a homer, I’m just keeping it real baby! ENUMCLAW

Washington at UCLA

DO: Will Husky QB Jake Locker play Saturday? Maybe, or maybe not. Even without Locker, the Dogs should be able to bounce back from the scrapes and bruises after going Duck hunting. This may be the only bowl UW will play in this season – playing in the Rose Bowl. WASHINGTON

JL: The Breezely Bruins led by the Sleezely Rick N. (I can’t even type his full name or I shall surely be ill, will most likely fight a way to beat the Dawgs. Although this is the one time I will actually be rooting for the U of W to throttle their opponent (Slick Rick). UCLA

Washington State at Arizona

DO: Another week, another loss for the Cougars. ARIZONA

JL: ARIZONA

Detroit at Seattle

DO: The Seahawks get back into the win column with a win over the lowly Lions. SEATTLE

JL: The only chance that Motown has here in the Emerald City is if the Megatron (wide receiver Calvin Johnson) is playing for the Lions. Otherwise it will be a steady diet of Kevin Smith up the gut, Kevin Smith left, Kevin Smith right, punt – repeat….ZZZZZZZZ. Given time, Hasselbeck will shred the porous, swiss cheese Lion secondary for at least two or three touchdown aerials. Watch for rookie Golden Domer, Seattle tight end John Carlson, to score at least once, as Detroit has had a devil of a time defending against tight ends this season. Go Hawks! SEATTLE
