Prep football action: Enumclaw stays on top

And White River continues to improve.

The Enumclaw High Hornets were tested a bit during the early stages of Thursday night’s SPSL 2A football game but managed to roll to a 44-14 victory over the visiting Fife Trojans. The EHS squad is now 7-0 and remains the No. 1 team in the state’s Class 2A ranks, according to a formula used by the WIAA.

Wyatt Neu starred for the Hornets, rushing for a pair of touchdowns and adding an 89-yard kick return for another score. Gunnar Trachte tossed a pair of TD passes and Seamus Twohey ran for another, all after Riley Rutledge had booted a 30-yard field goal to open the scoring.

WHITE RIVER FOOTBALL

After beginning the season with three straight losses, White River has turned things around and has now picked up three victories in four weeks. The Hornets improved to 3-4 on the season (2-4 in league play) with a 21-19 victory October 13 over the Washington Patriots.

After falling behind 13-0, White River cracked the scoreboard in the second quarter when Aaden Rathbun connected with Tate Bowen on a 46-yard scoring strike. Trailing 19-7 after three quarters of play, the Hornets captured the win with a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns. The first was on a fourth-down, 9-yard pass from Rathbun to Tyler Roach. The game-winner came on a 5-yard TD run by Landon Mollett.
