PREP SPORTS: Most other fall sports kickoff season this week at Bonney Lake, Sumner

All other high school sports kickoff for Bonney Lake and Sumner teams this week, except cross country

Since high school football started its season last Friday, Sept. 4, the remainder of the fall sports begin the season this week – with the exception of cross country.

Perhaps the biggest game this week is in girls soccer. Bonney Lake, who is looking at making the playoff again, travels to Tacoma to face Class 4A powerhouse Bellarmine Prep in non-league play. Bellarmine Prep has played in the state finals three times since 2000, winning state titles in 2000 and 2004.

In girls volleyball, Sumner play at 4A Puyallup Thursday, Sept. 10 in non-league action.

Sumner has reached the state tournament three consecutive seasons – finishing fifth in 2008.

Last season, Puyallup placed eight at state. They have been to the state tournament 18 times since 1980.

In South Puget Sound League 3A action, Bonney Lake plays Franklin Pierce in volleyball and boys tennis; plays White River in tennis and Clover Park in golf.

Sumner faces Lakes in SPSL 3A golf and Auburn Mountainview in girls swimming.
