The Sumner High boys basketball squad’s South Puget Sound League 3A mark plummeted to 1-7 after losing contests last week to White River 54-39 and Bonney Lake (see other story).

Sumner hosted White River Jan. 12 and the score was knotted at 20 at intermission. White River began to pull away in the game’s second half though, outscoring Sumner 34-19 in the remaining 16 minutes of the contest.

Spartan point guard Michael Murphy took game scoring honors with 16 points. Sumner’s 6-foot, 3-inch post, Zeb Glissmeyer, also chipped in with a dozen points.

The SHS bunch got a bye Tuesday and will host Enumclaw’s undefeated cagers at 7 p.m. Friday. Saturday presents the most likely chance for the Spartans to earn their second league win, as Sumner heads to Peninsula High.
