Sumner High’s wrestling crew is still in search of its initial league dual meet victory after dropping a Jan. 13 home match 63-12 to the Peninsula Seahawks.

The only winners for Sumner came at 135 and 152 pounds as freshman Zach Wooding and junior Matt Wilson pinned their challengers in the first rounds.

Sumner took a dozen grapplers to Foss High School’s Willie Stewart Tournament on Saturday with half of them tangling in the pig-tail action.

Attending were Wooding and Wilson, along as Jeremy Johnson at 119 pounds, Andre Sloan at 125, Tyler Hidalgo at 140 and Alex Bricker at 171 pounds. Results from the Willie Stewart bouts were unavailable at press time.

The Spartans will be looking for a league dual-meet victory against either tonight,

Wednesday, at home against Auburn Mountainview or at Clover Park Thursday.

Coach Jeremy Horsley maintains his grapplers are just trying to gain as much experience as possible and are concentrating on honing their skills for the district tournament in early February.
