SHS SOCCER: Spartan footballers kick off with a non-league win and a tie against Mt. Rainier, Federal Way

The Sumner Spartan soccer squad had a decent start on the pitch Saturday, earning a win against Mount Rainier High and a tie against Federal Way in two nonleague jamboree matches.

SHS walked away with a 2-0 win against the Rams and a scoreless tie against the Eagles.

Neither team will compete against the Spartans in league games this season, but the jamborees did kick off competitive play for Sumner.

Jamboree games are 20-minute, exhibition-only games.

Sumner had a South Puget Sound League 2A game Tuesday against White River High School. Results from that game came too late to include here, but will be posted online.

There will be a nonleague game at 7 tonight, Wednesday, against Tyee High School. The game will be at Sunset Chev Stadium.
