Sumner High School’s girls swim team took second place at the West Central District Class 2A tournament, finishing behind Interlake High of Bellevue. For their efforts, the girls will be rewarded with a one-way ticket to the King County Aquatic Center tomorrow to compete at the state level.
Madison Munger took first place in the 200-yard freestyle with 2:00.80, while Kallan Gustafson took third with 2:10.35.
Sami Hendricks won the 50 freestyle with a 25.42. Hendricks additionally won the 100 freestyle by a hair, with a time of 55.79.
The 200 freestyle relay team of Munger, Ashley Huynh, Elizabeth Martin and Hendricks won with a 1:46.20 clocking.
The medley relay team of Alicia Ditty, Huynh, Munger and Hendricks took second at 1:56.87, coming short by only .04.
Munger placed third with a 1:02.61 in the 100 butterfly-stroke.
Ditty fell just short of first in the 100 backstroke, with a time of 1:04.99.
The same fate befell Huynh in the 100 breaststroke, with a time of 1:11.51.
The team has one more week of competition to go. State competition takes place Friday and Saturday at the King County Aquatic Center.
