There’s no break for the Enumclaw High wrestling team.

The Hornets won the Rogers Holiday tournament Dec. 19 and captured back-to-back wins at the Kentwood Duals Dec. 23. They head to the prestigious 32-man bracket Pacific Coast Tournament in Vancouver, Wash., Friday and Saturday before returning to the South Puget Sound League 3A schedule with White River Jan. 6 and Auburn Mountainview Jan. 7.

At the Kentwood Duals, the Hornets won eight straight matches in a 44-21, come-from-behind victory over the host Conquerors during the opening match of the four-team annual event.

D.J. Qualls opened with a 12-6 decision at 189 pounds. Steven Knapp, at 215, followed it up with a 5-2 decision, but Kentwood answered with three consecutive pins and a 9-3 decision to take the lead.

Hunter File, wrestling 125 pounds, scored an 11-3 decision. Marcus Nichols scored a 4-minute, 12-second pin at 130, Andrew Fox tallied a 17-2 technical fall at 135 and Kyle Young pulled off a 5-3 decision at 140. Chance Mitchell and Josh Musick scored back-to-back pins at 125 and 152. At 160, Kario Wallin posted a 15-0 technical fall and Colton Malek at 171, finished the night with a 6-2 decision.

The Hornets turned around and topped Decatur 55-17. Starting at 215, Knapp claimed an 11-0 major decision. Heavyweight Jeff Wiltse pinned his Gator opponent in 4:49 and Jerod Paul won his 103-pound match by fall.

Cole Snyder earned a 4-0 decision for Enumclaw at 119 pounds. File picked up a pin at 125, Fox at 135 won 9-3 and Young won a 5-0 decision. Mitchell and Musick had back-to-back pins, Malek earned a forfeit and Qualls finished the night with a 3:34 pin.

At the Rogers High tournament, EHS walked away with the team trophy with 267 points. Rogers finished second with 188 and Kent-Meridian was third with 165.5.

Coach Lee Reichert called it a “confidence builder.”

Enumclaw put 11 in the finals and was led by champions Fox, Mitchell, Musick, Wallin and Wiltse.

“It was amazing,” Reichert said. “The kids just came in and wrestled well.”

Fox earned the Hornets’ first title of the night with a 14-2 win at 135 pounds.

Mitchell captured his 145-pound crown with a 4:35 pin. Musick and Wallin followed with championship pins at 152 and 160 pounds.

Wiltse earned the Hornets’ final title at heavyweight with a 2:17 pin.

Also wrestling in the finals and placing second were freshman Paul at 103 pounds; Travis Reano, 119; File, 125; Young, 140; Malek, 171; and Qualls, 189.
